As the Cannes Film Festival approaches, taking place from May 14-25, the city’s top hotels are gearing up to host the global cinema community. From revamped gourmet menus to new beauty products and significant renovations, these hotels are pulling out all the stops to welcome their prestigious guests. Here’s an overview of the latest updates at three of Cannes’ most renowned luxury hotels.
Majestic Barrière
A favorite among movie stars, the Majestic has undergone extensive renovations for May 2014. Led by interior architect Jean-Philippe Nuel, known for his work on luxury hotels and cruise ships, the hotel’s private beach now features an eco-friendly, removable deck—the first of its kind on the Croisette. This deck can accommodate 100 guests for meals or up to 200 for cocktails, with a VIP area offering day beds and space for 400 mattresses on the sand. A lounge area will open in July and August. Additionally, the dining area, which seats up to 600 guests, has been redesigned. The hotel’s gourmet restaurants now offer a choice between Mediterranean and Japanese cuisine crafted by chefs Maryan Gandon and Toyofumi Ozuru.
Intercontinental Carlton
The esteemed Intercontinental Carlton has added a new 80 square meter suite named “Gilles Jacob,” located on the first floor. Named after the long-time president of the Cannes Film Festival, who has been a loyal guest since 1976, this suite is decorated in a “Belle Époque” style and costs between €1320 and €6200 per night, depending on the season. This addition is part of a larger $6 million renovation, which includes updated hallway carpets, restaurant interiors, room designs, and marble details in common areas. Despite these changes, the hotel has maintained its historical charm and the marks left by celebrities over the years.
Grand Hyatt Cannes Hôtel Martinez
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of its renowned private beach and restaurant, the Zplage, the Grand Hyatt Cannes Hôtel Martinez introduces a new menu featuring ingredients that have defined the past decade, each presented in three different culinary styles. Furthermore, the hotel has launched an exclusive line of bath and beauty products created by Cannes-based perfumer Isabelle Burdel, featuring scents of verbena, jasmine, rosewood, patchouli, amber, and sandalwood.
