A luxury hotel with a futuristic design resembling spaceship-like discs reminiscent of the Starship Enterprise from the TV series ‘Star Trek’ is planned to be partially constructed underwater in the Maldives.
The Polish developers behind the Water Discus Hotel received approval from the national ministry of tourism last week to commence building the innovative underwater project near the island of Kuredhivaru. This ambitious project will be situated among delicate coral reefs in pristine, clear waters.
The hotel consists of two main sections to accommodate different guest preferences: those who desire an underwater view of tropical fish and vibrant coral reefs, and those who prefer scenic aerial views of the lush, blue-skied surroundings.
The upper deck of the structure, suspended up to 7 meters above water on five pillars, will feature a restaurant, a spa, a rooftop seawater pool, a tropical garden, and a helicopter landing pad.
The lower underwater deck, situated up to 30 meters below the surface, will include 21 soundproof guest rooms, a bar, and a submarine air-locked dive center that allows divers direct access to the ocean. This dive center will also feature a decompression chamber for deep-sea divers.
Guests can enjoy various water activities such as deep-sea exploration in three-passenger submersibles, motor boating, water-skiing, jet skiing, and underwater scooters.
There are also plans to develop a similar project in Dubai. However, details about the opening date are not yet available.
Meanwhile, the Maldives continues to be a prime location for luxury underwater experiences, including another underwater restaurant and hotel. The Ithaa Undersea Restaurant at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island hotel is located 5 meters below the sea surface and offers 180-degree views of coral gardens.
