Carrie Coolidge, a contributor for Pursuitist based in Manhattan, reports that tennis champion Andy Murray has opened Cromlix, a luxury hotel situated in a castle near his hometown of Dunblane, Scotland. Nestled in Perthshire, Cromlix joins the prestigious Connoisseurs Scotland collection, which features 28 luxurious properties across the nation.
Cromlix, a 15-bedroom hotel sprawled across 34 acres of landscaped woodland and gardens, offers a glimpse into its lavish interiors. The recently renovated Victorian mansion, located three miles from Dunblane, retains much of its original charm, including a private chapel and loch. It is tastefully decorated with antique Scottish furniture. Highlights include the sky-blue and gold-leaf bar, the French navy and moss green dining room of Chez Roux with glass walls, and hand-painted shimmering baths.
The hotel features five suites and ten bedrooms, each filled with natural light and subtle decor, many offering views of the meticulously maintained grounds and tennis courts. Named after notable Scots such as Burns, Bowes-Lyon, Bruce, Eden, and Ferguson, the suites boast unique character. Bathrooms are equipped with exquisite freestanding gold, silver, and copper baths, while bedrooms feature 32-inch televisions disguised as mirrors.
Cromlix provides various dining, entertainment, and celebration options. The Chez Roux restaurant, overseen by legendary French chef Albert Roux and managed by award-winning Executive Head Chef Darin Campbell, is set in a conservatory overlooking the grounds. Guests can observe chefs at work in the open kitchen.
Private dining options are abundant, including a small study for up to 10 guests and a first-floor snooker room with a convertible table that can accommodate 20 diners. Visitors can unwind in the whiskey room, the drawing room with its cozy sofas and open fire, or the elegant bar adorned with hand-painted gold-leaf peacock and floral motifs. The chapel, complete with exposed organ pipes, offers a magical venue for weddings with up to 30 guests.
The landscaped grounds feature tennis courts and a practice wall in Wimbledon’s signature purple and green colors. Managed by Inverlochy Castle Management International (ICMI) on behalf of Murray, Cromlix promises exceptional service, as highlighted by ICMI Managing Director Norbert Lieder. Lieder emphasizes that the hotel’s interiors, service, cuisine, and meticulous attention to detail will ensure Cromlix’s reputation matches its famous owner. Guests are welcome from across Scotland, the UK, and worldwide.
