A U.S.-based hotel chain has introduced a new initiative aimed at helping smartphone enthusiasts disconnect and encouraging family bonding. At selected Wyndham Grand locations across the U.S., including Chicago, Clearwater, Orlando, Galveston, and Charleston, families can participate in the “Reconnected” program. This program offers various activities designed to support a digital detox for both adults and children.

Upon check-in, guests receive a timed lock box to secure their smartphones, promoting uninterrupted family time. The program also includes a toolkit and blueprint for constructing a blanket fort, designed by professional architects, along with reading and activity materials from “The Nocturnals” series, which engages children in solving mysteries.

For late-night cravings, guests can enjoy a custom s’mores treat created by Duff Goldman from “Ace of Cakes.” To help families capture memories without their phones, an Instax camera is provided at check-in, offering an analog method to preserve special moments.

The program, beginning on February 23, offers a five percent discount for participants until September 3. Participating hotels in the pilot program include Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach, Wyndham Grand Orlando Bonnet Creek, Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront, Hotel Galvez (a Wyndham Grand Hotel), and The Mills House Wyndham Grand Hotel.

While Wyndham Grand promotes a digital detox, other hotels are leveraging the influence of social media. The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, known for its overwater villas and underwater restaurant, offers an “Instagram Butler” service. This service guides guests on an “InstaTrail” to the most photogenic spots on the island.

One of the pioneers in utilizing Instagram for marketing was the 1888 Hotel in Sydney, Australia, which opened in 2013. The hotel offered complimentary stays to Instagram users with over 10,000 followers at its launch. It features digital murals and desktop screens displaying an updated feed of Instagram photos tagged with #1888hotel, and provides a selfie space for guests to take pictures within a large frame for potential display on the hotel’s wall.
