As we dive into the peak of the summer travel season, both luxury travelers and budget-conscious vacationers often wonder which destinations offer the best experiences during these warm months.
According to travel booking site Hipmunk, which has just released data from their first annual Seasonal Hotel Price Index, we have some insightful information for your travel plans. Whether you’re hunting for bargains or trying to determine what constitutes a “good” deal, this data provides a useful reference point.
Top among the priciest getaways are wine regions such as Sonoma, with an average nightly rate of $417, and Napa, averaging $338. Other costly destinations include Santa Barbara ($311) and Key West ($305), both known for their perpetual sunshine.
It’s no surprise that Seattle ($302) makes the list, given its limited window of pleasant weather each year. Similarly, Newport ranks ninth with an average rate of $292 per night.
However, some cities are unexpected entries. Sedona, with an average rate of $249 and ranking 17th, is surprising due to its scorching summer desert climate. Remarkably, nearby Sedona ranks as the most affordable destination, with prices 64% below winter rates and an average of just $97 per night.
Miami is another city where travelers can find great deals, with summer rates averaging 58% below winter prices.
Even ski destinations like Breckenridge, Colorado, offer significant savings, with rates 56% lower than usual, and Salt Lake City, which is 16% below its standard rates.
